About
Pacific Spirit is a massive, 874-hectare ancient forest. While it’s not one “enclosure,” it features over 55 kilometers of trails, and more than half of them are leash-optional.
It is the best place in the region for a “forest immersion” experience. The trails are wide, well-maintained with gravel or woodchips, and surrounded by towering Douglas firs, cedars, and lush ferns. It is a high-traffic area for professional dog walkers and local hikers alike.
💡 Barkcouver Tip
The “Canine Code of Conduct”: Because this is a sensitive ecological area, Metro Vancouver is strict about three things:
-
Stay on the Trail: Dogs must stay on the designated paths to protect the undergrowth and nesting birds.
-
Recall is Mandatory: Since it’s a multi-use park with cyclists and horses, your dog must return to you instantly.
-
Leash-Up Zones: Pay close attention to the intersections. Some trails (like the Camosun Bog or near stream crossings) switch to “Leash Required” to protect salmon and fragile ecosystems.
⚠️ Current 2026 Alert
As of early 2026, Metro Vancouver has been reviewing the dog management plan here due to high traffic and environmental concerns. There were proposals to reduce off-leash trails, but after significant public pushback, many changes were paused. Always check the latest signage at the trailheads, as some specific central loops may have recently transitioned to on-leash only to reduce user conflict.
