Spanish Banks
About
The Spanish Banks off-leash area is a massive, unfenced coastal playground located at the far western edge of the park system (the “Extension”). It is specifically designed for dogs who need maximum space. The area consists of two distinct play zones: a vast, flat grassy meadow and a huge stretch of sandy shoreline.
Because the tide here goes out further than anywhere else in Vancouver, the “dog beach” can transform into a massive desert of sandbars and shallow tide pools, providing hundreds of meters of room for dogs to sprint and splash without ever feeling crowded. It is widely considered the best spot in the city for high-energy breeds and dogs that live for water-fetch.
💡 Barkcouver Tip
The boundary is key here! The off-leash area starts West of the West Concession. If you wander too far East toward the picnic tables and volleyball courts, you’re back in the “on-leash” zone. Look for the wooden posts and signs on the grass that mark the start of the “Dog Zone.”
