Kingcrest Park
About
The off-leash area at New Brighton is a massive, partially fenced coastal sanctuary. Unlike the rest of the park (which features a public pool and picnic sites), the dog zone is tucked into the eastern corner, creating a dedicated “buffer” between the industrial port and the residential park space.
It is one of the few places in Vancouver that offers a “Surf & Turf” experience: a massive, sprawling grassy field for sprinting and a rugged, pebbled beach for swimming. The area is bordered by the Burrard Inlet to the north and a secure fence along the train tracks to the south, giving it a contained feel despite its huge size.
💡 Barkcouver Tip
The “Low Tide” Bonus: At low tide, the beach area expands significantly, revealing tide pools and sandbars. This is the best time for “shy swimmers” to get their paws wet without having to commit to a full plunge.
Boundaries: Be mindful that the “Off-Leash” status ends as soon as you cross the path toward the New Brighton Pool. There is a clear signpost at the transition—make sure to leash up before heading toward the human swimming or picnic areas to avoid a fine!
