Strathcona Park
About
The off-leash area at Strathcona is an expansive, unfenced grassy field located on the west side of the park (near the corner of Prior and Campbell). It is one of the largest open-concept dog zones near the downtown core.
Because the park is so big, the dog area doesn’t feel like a “pen”—it feels like an open meadow. It’s a high-socialization spot where you’ll see everything from professional dog walkers to local “street-smart” pups. The terrain is largely flat, making it the perfect venue for high-speed games of fetch or long-distance frisbee. On any given afternoon, you’ll find a vibrant “neighborhood pack” gathered here, creating a strong sense of community.
💡 Barkcouver Tip
Strathcona Park has Split Hours for off-leash play. Dogs are permitted to be off-leash from 6:00 am to 10:00 am and 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. During the mid-day hours, the park is a high-traffic zone for schools and local sports, so make sure to respect the leash-up times!
Insider Move: Keep an eye on the “marsh” area on the south side of the park. While it’s a beautiful spot for a leashed walk, it’s home to lots of local birdlife and sometimes a coyote or two at dusk—keep your pup close when walking through the more naturalized sections.
