Sunset Park
About
The off-leash area at Sunset Park is a fully fenced and gated enclosure located at the north end of the park (near East 51st Avenue and Prince Edward Street). It’s a medium-to-large urban dog park that balances open space with structured design.
The enclosure features a high-quality “fines” surface (packed dirt/gravel) in the high-traffic areas to prevent it from becoming a mud pit during the winter, while still maintaining some grassy edges. It has a very modern, clean feel and is known for its friendly “neighborhood watch” vibe—locals here tend to be very proactive about keeping the space tidy and the play respectful.
💡 Barkcouver Tip
Unlike many neighborhood fields with split hours, Sunset Park’s fenced enclosure is generally open 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. This makes it a reliable “anytime” spot if you missed the morning window at other local parks.
Insider Move: Keep an eye out for the City of Vancouver Nursery located right in the center of the park. While it’s closed to the public, the beautiful flowers and plants grown there often spill over the fences, making the on-leash walk around the nursery one of the most fragrant and colorful strolls in South Vancouver.
